I wanted to calculate the probability of one consumer shifting from using a petroleum-fueled vehicle to an electric vehicle. Since my background is in engineering I do not know much about how to measure the consumer willingness to change. Has anybody has the knowledge to measure consumer behavior to change and then kindly explain to me with understandable words?
Consumers go through a process of adoption of any new technology and marketers ie companies take planned efforts to facilitate and/or guide the consumers to take the purchase decision.
There is a model of consumer behavior called innovation adoption model which relates with the company communications with the consumers. This model can be used to design a research to forecast the adoption pace of the new mentioned product.
Measuring probabilities to change attitude is imperative here. Now the factors that shape changes in attitude need to be identified for this case and then responses can be measured based on how the users of petroleum-fuelled vehicle answer to your attitude scale-based questionnaire. Pros and cons (in the eyes of vehicle users) of both a petroleum-fuelled vehicle and an electric vehicle need to be considered while developing the statements for the attitude scale-based questionnaire. A critical group of respondents could be the vehicle technicians who sometimes work as opinion leaders in this case. Interesting topic, good luck with your work.
Abureza M Muzareba thank you for your insight, I really appreciate it. from your answer, A survey is a must then, is there any model that can predict consumer behavior? Since this is a part of a larger research and a survey is quite time-intensive.
