How to measure biofilm developpement and clogging degree in porous wastewater treatment filter such as vertical flow CW or Multi Soil Layering system?

I am looking for experiments and methods that can quatify the degree of biofilm developpement and clogging inside wastewater treatment filters.

To investigate the development of clogging you can measure the resistance in the filter. One way is to measure the pressure resistance in the filter at same flow from the filter is constructed until the biofilm is fully developed.
