There are a good stock of scented rice. But it is often said that there are variation in their aromatic flavor. How to measure their difference in aromatic flavor ? Does application of chemical have adverse effect on their aromatic flavor ?
@ Debashis, you may measure aroma using electronic nose. Please have a look of the attached file for more details. It was general believe that only chemical fertilizer application may reduce the aroma of the scented rice but organic fertilization may keep intact of the aroma although yield may reduce. However, combination of organic and inorganic fertilization may be the best for optimum production as well as maintain the aroma quality.
However, controversies still exist regarding the effects of gene expression on aroma formation. For example, evidence from previous studies showed that nitrogen fertilizer affects aroma formation in aromatic rice and showed a significant relationship with 2-AP biosynthesis [17,18]. However, Itani et al. [19] reported that the application of nitrogen did not affect grain 2-AP concentrations in aromatic rice. In contrast, Suwanarit et al. [20] found that the concentrations of nitrogen in grain were negatively correlated with the aroma in the fragrant rice cultivar ‘KhawDauk Mali-105’.
