I want to perform a model of a moving rigid half cylindrical punch across a beam as shwon in the attached.
The punch subjected to concentrated normal force, and moves with a constant subsonic velocity all along the beam.
i performed the model under ansys apdl ( i attached the code), my problem is how to make the cylindrical punch move, i should notice here that i use the following elements
PLANE182 !element type #1: PLANE182 axi symetric
TARGE169 !element type #3: target element
CONTA172 !element type #4: contact element

for tha valuable answer, the sphere need to move by intial velocity equal to 10m/s so i ll calculat its dispmacement accordingly.the idea seems possible to implemented will try and come back for further info

I tried the first method you proposed, the sphere moves but just one step , even i changed the step time but the it doesnt cross the whole beam, have you an idea about this pb ?i used the following code

the code works but it gives wrong results. since the applied force is constant, the pressure vs time must be also constant but in my case, the pressure did change against time.I attached The APDL file of the problem , and i will really appreciate any suggestions to solve the previously mentioned issue

Iam trying to plot the contact pressure vs time and also get the contact length
In the attach a plot of what i get as a result it is the contact pressur but as u see the pressur is not constant as its suppose to be

@claudio i did increase the time steps but the same problem appear even with including the danping effect (see the attached fig). Now will try the e) suggestion u provide
I want to ask a question on how to implement this suggestion. You mean i start a static analysis in the first timing step then tye rest will be dynamics . Or for each application of force a static analysis is needed
