How to justify that surface energy of {100} is higher than {111} using the arguments of thermodynamics?

Based on the argument of thermodynamics, validate that

the surface energy of {100} is higher than that of {111}, γ100 > γ111.Is it possible to reverse the order to have γ 100 > γ111?

I would highly appreciate some explanation.
