How to justify sample size age split?

HELLO,

I have performed a study with N=87, however I decided to split my data into two age groups: 18-34 which is lower age group and 34-54 which is higher age group.

I do not know how to justify this exact split. Do you know any references that help you with age split justifications?

You can simply state that the age group 18-34 is youth and 35-54 middle age. Measure the average of youth group (e.g. 24.7) and average of middle age (e.g. 45.2).
