Electrophoresis capillary method , Wounch et al 1999, mawji et. al; 1999, 2011 experiment has isolated only hydroxymate type siderophores . some had used Ga isotopes also but only for Iron based chemistry for siderophores.

I want to isolate and characterized all type of siderophores from HNLC of indian sector of southern ocean. So can you suggest me something other than that that could be useful for my work.

Hi Alok,

I would recommend to isolate a particular microorganism and work from there. If you try to isolate siderophores from a particular marine sample, you might not be able to identify who or what produced the isolated siderophore. Then, to determine the production of siderophores from your microbial isolates use the chrome azurol sulfonate assay. To confirm basic structural characteristics, the Csaky and Arnow assays are available as well.
