I need an help on a conceptual understanding of results obtained from an elastic net analysis.

I have run an elastic net analysis in a binary model in order to select the metabolites whose changes in time are positively or negatively related to a reference treatment.

In order to do so, I have used values of changes (positive or negatives) previously calculated between 2 time points. I was wondering if the positive values of coefficients I obtained do mean that a unit increase in the observed change has a positive association with my reference tretament or either that the absolute unit increase (irrespective of negative and positive sign) is positively associated with the reference tretament.

I am not an expert on this type of analysis so I really hope that someone could help me to understand this point and I'm sorry If I'm missing some important information from a statistical point of view.
