i have used a resistance box, varying external load from 100k-10 ohm and noted the voltage with digital multimeter in steady state condition. which is further used to calculate current and normalized to current density and power density., plot the graph for "V vs Current density" and "Current density vs Power Density". But don't know how to interpret this ?
i have high current density like 295 mA/m2 but max power density is quite less (35mW/m2).what could be the reason.?
Hi, I think I may give you some advices on your question. It is clear that the internal resistance of your stack is relatively high (~2*10^4 ohm*cm^2 based on the figure you have presented). Did you use catalysts on your electrodes ? The open circuit voltage is OK. Thus you may try to check the extra contributions of internal resistance.

power density is very low, i think it depends on which kind of electrode you are using, for anode you must be using a electrode which have Good bio compatibility, High specific and electroactive surface area, Strong chemical stability (includes corrosion resistance) Fast electron transfer at microbe electrode interface; high conductivity.
i would recommend you graphite fiber brush as bio-anode. to improve performance of electrode you can also do some pretreatment and pre inoculation process.

Polarization curve is done to know the fuel cell behaviours of MFC. To be specific, maximum power density and internal resistance. The linear relationship of IV curve helps to identify the internal resistance with an equation y= mx+c, whereas y is your emf of cell, m gives you the internal resistance. Moreover, you can interpret three different types of losses in your fuel cell i.e, Activation loss, Ohmic loss, and Concentration loss. At low current density, activation loss occurs followed by other two losses. If you able enough to interpret this, you can know what type of loss is pronounced in your reactors. To the best of my knoweldge and experience the graph you depicts here has low activation loss but higher ohmic loss that means the losses comes from your electrodes rather than the feed and microbial activity.
