Hello,

I'm working on phylogenetic analysis of E.Coli and am using MLST to get  more information about the evolutionary history. But I'm struggling to understand the ouputs of such an MLST analysis.

Since MLST is a procedure using sequences of internal fragments of seven house-keeping genes, I do not understand the diversity of the genes in the outputs. Shouldn't this always be the 7 house-keeping genes with just different IDs?

And what does ST exactly mean?

See a sample file with explained output at https://github.com/tseemann/mlst section Usage

Thank you.
