Water productivity concerns with producing more food, income, livelihoods, and ecological benefits at less social and environmental cost per unit of water used. Water productivity (WP) is defined as crop yield per cubic metre (kg/m3) of water consumption (WC). It can be increased by either increasing crop yield, reducing WC and maintaining the yield level, or by both. In order to increase WP and ensure food security in the future, it is argued that investments in agricultural infrastructure and agricultural research might have higher gains than investments in new irrigation. What is your view? Could you please explain the pathways to improving water productivity?
