Hi i was trying to deposit the polystyrene nano fibers on aluminum substrate... Can anyone help me how to enhance the nano fiber's adhesion to the substrate? Like annealing pr vacuum drying ? Any related papers will help. Thanks
pre-treatment of substrate is very important. Since the original adhesion force between ps fiber and
Al is not strong enough, i recommend that you can coat ps solution on the Al substrate and prepare the fiber before the evaporation of solvent. Also, the evaporating rate of solvent can not be fast.
Enhancing the nanofiber's adhesion to aluminum substrate require close surface pretreatment to destroy the aluminum oxide film and so activate the surface for fiber coating stage. Please go through the article on the RG link below; its the right choice that contains full variables required to do this pretreatment as its includes:
Physical cleaning by direct mechanical polishing by different grits of silicon carbide (SiC) paper then rinsed using distilled water and ultrasonically degrease in acetone for 15 minutes.
Chemical etching process, for alkaline etching process the degreased specimens dipped into 1.25 M sodium hydroxide (NaOH) solution at 80 °C for 5 minutes. The etched samples then rinsed with ultra-pure water. Now, the samples are ready for acid etching process by immersion in solution containing 8 M nitric acid (HNO3) solution for one minute at ambient temperature. The etched samples then washed with ultra-pure water and become ready for nanofiber's coating.
Adding of SU-8 2000.5 in very small volume in polystyrene solution can help efficiently if it does not interfere with nanofiber working principle or does not change properties of polystyrene. UV exposure after deposition of nano-fiber will make them permanently stable on aluminium film. viscosity of SU-8 can be reduced with acetone or PGMEA (Propylene glycol monomethyl ether acetate)
