I diluted a nanocomposite solution with D5x to measure its UV-Vis absorbance. What I did was just simply times 5 with the UV-Vis absorbance results I have and assume this is the full concentration solution.
And I subsequently use this result convert it into energy graph to estimate its bandgap with tauc plot.
Is this the correct way of doing it?
Dear Ck Ong, if you only want to investigate the optical bandgap of your samples that is the way to go.
From Beer-Lambert law, the absorption of your solution will be proportional to the concentration, the molar extinction coefficient and to the optical path. From these quantities, only the molar extinction coefficient is wavelength dependent, meaning that your optical absorption spectrum should have the same appearance, aside from a some scaling factors such as the concentration of your solution and the optical path of your cuvette. Of course, this only works in a relatively low absorbance/concentration regime, so you must be careful about some assumptions, but other than that your assumption is correct.
