I have a 6m YDFL fiber in my hand and looking to build a ring fiber laser cavity that could have the highest gain so that I can easily achieve Q-switch or modelock with my current SA.

However, the YDFL I have is not Liekki and the spec is incomplete as shown below. Is there anyway to identify a suitable length for my YDFL based on the current spec?

Technical Specs

Brand: Newport

Fiber Type: Ytterbium Doped

Mode Field Diameter, Nominal: 5.1 - 6.3 @1085 nm µm

Cladding Diameter: 125 ±1 µm

Coating Diameter: 245 ±15 µm

Cable Diameter: 2.5 mm

Operating Wavelength: 1030 - 1100 nm

Cut-off Wavelength: 800 - 900 nm

Buffer Coating Material: Dual Acrylate

Maximum Attenuation: ≤50 @1200 nm dB/km

Numerical Aperture: 0.14 - 0.16

Proof Test: 100 kpsi

Absorption at Pump/Peak: 1700 (nominal) @977 nm dB/m
