Applications of power electronic converters in power systems went into the development of Flexible AC Transmission Systems. The Thyristor Controlled Series Capacitor (TCSC) and Static Synchronous Series Compensator (SSSC) are two main series controllers in the FACTS family.

Prof. Babulak, there are a couple of methods for implementing TCSCs that I have tried before:
1. Siemens' PSSE simulation tool has libraries for various FACTS devices which may be integrated with a power system model. But this is not an open-source tool.
