I have emulsion adsorbed on graphene surface and would like to get an image using AFM showing both graphene and emulsions. some of my emulsion sizes are 80 nm in diameter, and some other ones are as low as 5 nm. How can I use AFM to image both and what kind of tip should I be using ?

Hi Sima,
Non-contact mode for both nano features should be fine. If you want to have a high resolution imaging, the tapping mode is recommended.

Thanks Xuhua, I have already tried tapping mode, but it did not work and I could not get good image. I think for emulsion some specific parameter setting or probe need to be used.

It is very tricky to use tapping mode. Sometimes the tips are easily damaged. Make sure the tips are new and good. I did remember when i trained a PhD student a while ago. He couldn't get any good images for a week. We found the best way is to get a good tip. Since then we recorded very good images for nanotubes and nanoparticles. Be patient to practice. There is no short cut!
