I am having genome sequence of one bacteriophage. How to characterize, if the genome is of lytic phage or not.
I used PHACTs, discussed the annotated genes present (ie - was there lots of lysis genes etc), and looked at the family that the major capsid protein belonged to (using protein motifs in the TIGRFAM or PFAM databases) in my recent paper (Article The Isolation and Genome Sequencing of Five Novel Bacterioph...

The approach mentioned by Jess looks very promising for such development
Honestly speaking , still no well known software to know this, people are using phaster or phacts but I have asked many queries to the PHASTER ;PHACTS but they could not answer it precisely , it is better to find prophage in bacteria but cannot distinguish between lytic and temperate phage
