Respect is not given, respect should be earned. A scholar should honestly declare the assumptions with which he/she works and specify the boundary conditions of his/her opinion. Moreover, scholars should be careful with generalization across different contexts by specifying the limitations of their opinions and by inviting other scholars to further examine/test the posited opinion (e.g. replication studies).
