Seeking help from altruists.

I am a student of Forestry and have worked on molecular identification of fungal phytopathogens. However I have a feeling that I have just worked on surface level knowledge and with help from others as well. Now I am trying to focus on learning more and doing in depth study on the molecular identification process/ bioinformatics. But the abundance of prevailing data/ info is too much overwhelming. I need some guidance for starting from point zero.
