Consider a shell-and-tube heat exchanger with some no of tubes and 1 meter length. I want to find the temperature variation of the fluid in the tubes experimentally by finding its temperature at certain intervals (say 0.2 meter). Let's take the outermost tube for simplicity. Is it possible?
you can measure the tube outer temperature then from the conductivity of the material used you can find the internal surface temperature, the fluid temperature is found then according to the Nu according to the flow conditions

If the temperatures of the fluid in a specified tube at certain interval can be measured directly by thermal couple distributed along the tube, then the simplest way to obtain the the temperature variation of the fluid in the tube is to fit the measure data as a polynomial function of location z along the tube with inlet of the tube as zero point to reference. The answer depends on how many details you expected to obtain.
