I designed a plasmonic slot waveguide using Comsol and I used mode analysis study to find the fundamental mode which would be confined in the slot region. my main problem is that I do not know which values should I look for? I mean that in the mode analysis you are asked to put the value you want to calculate the mode around it. how can I determine it? my design includes silica as a lower caldding, air as upper caldding and gold as two finite walls which surrounds the slot region. I used scattering boundary condition to absorb the outgoing wave and the domain size is big enough. I tried a lot to find a fundamental mode but each mode I found had leakage to the silica cladding.

Does my design and the method (mode analysis method) I am using correct for this simulation?

or Should I change the method?

I was going to use boundary mode analysis. however, as my simulation is 2D, I can not define ports for my simulation. because boundary mode analysis needs ports.

I would be very appreciated if some one can help me in this way.

Many thanks in advance.
