I am trying to simulate interaction of light with core-shell gold nano-particles to study photothermal phenomena (Solving Maxwell's equation), for which, I need the frequency dependent dielectric function of gold (shell), polystyrene (core) and the medium (water). At this point, I have several doubts:

1) Will the dielectric function at nanometer range be same as the the one for bulk? Additionally, will the geometry of the nanostructure (corrugated) have any effect on the dielectric function?

2) Will the medium have any effect on the dielectric function?

3) Will the polystyrene core have any effect on the dielectric function of gold and vise-versa?

If the answers are no, then I can simply use the bulk dielectric functions independently. However, if these are interdependent, is there any analytical model or method to estimate the values?

Or, I should find it experimentally?

I am new to this field. So, the literature is a bit overwhelming. I think clarity in these aspects will help a lot! Thank you.
