want to find the energy required by the water flow to initiate sand particle movement in the bed of sand. consider sandy soil was was eroded by water. kindly give some suggestions / literature.
I think the theory would be a tough one. It is more suited as an empirical question, and answer. But from the previous answers there seems to be some success.
As others have suggested; a Shields plot, or similar, is a typical way of presenting the threshold of motion of a granular soil based on a particle size parameter and a seabed shear stress parameter.
Richard Soulsby's book "Dynamics of marine sands" provides a good introduction to the subject.
