AIM - To convert the structure from side view to top view incorporating the thickness of the materials into the effective index

Hello everyone,

The whole structure consists of both Trivial and Topological Phase having different periods. For both phases, the Refractive Index of gratings = 3.485 Number of gratings, N = 50 Grating thickness, d = 500 nm (height)

Period for Trivial phase, P1 = 560nm with FF = 0.45

Period for Topological phase, P2 = 540 nm with FF = 0.35

Gap between the two phases = N*P1 - 150 [nm]

Cover medium Refractive index = 2.485

Substrate medium Refractive index = 2.485

The simulation was done in COMSOL software and have also attached the result obtained.

(have used a wavelength range of 1410 - 1580 [nm] in the step of 1)

Can you help me find the way to find the effective index for the structure manually.

Thank you in advance!!
