Why does effective mass of an electron decrease when the sharpness of the energy band increses?

i could understand from the formula m*=(h')2/(d2E/dK2) that m* is indirectly proportional to the second derivative of the E-K graph but i cant fathom this conceptually
i want to know the actual phenomenon leading to this relation
