So, I am a PhD student and I am just getting to know about the so-called h-index, q-index, etc. The thing is, there are other scores that get attributed to a scientific journal and I can't seem to get my head wrapped around those metrics... As a matter of fact, I need to know how to actually understand those scores (potentially, an explaining source?), whether the scores are universal, or if there is a conflict between the scores and, eventually, the impact those scores have on one's academic career?
I had a quick look at your RG Page and your introduction, you have written:" … approaching mathematical problems originating from the real world".
But as a scientometrican, with some books and articles covering many aspects of Metric studies, (browse my publications, if you like) I encourage you to learn about dark sides of H index, IF … or other biblio/sciento/infor/webo metrics. These you talked about and many other indicators show the surface. Show for example a so called researcher has several hundred or even several thousand published papers and several thousand to several hundred thousand citations and rocket sky H Index... are they good? we don't know unless we understand how these scores have been gained. Like "Money laundering" we can say we have "research laundering".
