The sputtered target (Ni-20Al bulk) itself is non-magnetic, as confirmed by VSM. Using DC magnetron, NiAl atoms were sputtered on glass substrates. However the thin films (2 to 10 microns) showed a clear hysteresis loop, indicating that the thin films are magnetic. Is there a specific reason for this to happen?
