I am having a hard time explaining diversity indices of my 454 data e.g. PD whole tree, Chao1, Observed species, Shannon, Simpson..
I wonder if someone may give brief overview of indices or may provide reference material. In most of research papers indices are not thoroughly described.

Magurran A.E. (1988) Ecological diversity and its measurement. ISBN 0-7099-3539-0.

I fully agree with Elena. I found a pdf version of the book a couple of years ago in the Internet, so it is quite likely that you can still find it serching with google...
