Research project needs to be carried out under the direction of a supervisor, possibly in collaboration with one or more co-supervisor.Supervisors are not allowed any remuneration or accumulation with a remuneration on a research project. Supervisor should establish active and continuous communication and exchange of best practice among the partners to maximise the benefits of the partnership.
Thanks Dr. Sukla for the answer. Most of the time supervisors find it hard to address the research theme, in particular in multi disciplinary projects. How can this problem be addressed? If the supervisors don't have an idea other than writing a proposal, how can they effectively involve in the project? One may think of hiring a post doc who has got expertise in the area. I don't know how effective this will be?
This can be increased by arranging more group meetings of lab members and supervisors (atleast once a week) and discussing the issues you face during experiment. In this way they can give you feed back and think of the solution. It will also help the supervisor to be aware about the challenges faced and make himself updated to find the solutions for the task. Active participation is a must. Analysing and understanding the data is equally important as performing experiments.
Thanks Dr. Prasad for your input. I guess, another effective way is to find out right collaboration. For instance, a chemist may find it difficult to manage a project that has got excessive mathematical content. So finding a mathematician as your collaborator will serve beneficial! What is your thought about this!!
