We have a rectangular cube soil model. I am dealing with a big problem of meshing my model. FLAC3D gives us totally different results when we change the zone numbers in each direction or in one direction.
My Question is what are the most important factors in designing a mesh? I am wondering what are the criteria for a good mesh?

This problem is common in FDM programs. An effort for finding optimum number of zones and mesh qualities has been done, recently. You can find interesting recommendations there:
