There's a great tool for this called BioRender (www.biorender.io) - specifically made for life science diagrams.
Has a library of pre-made cells, proteins, membrane shapes, organs, lab equipment, etc. that you can drag-and-drop so you don't have to spend time drawing each element of the figure out yourself. Saves a lot of time for schematic figures... it's also free for educational use!
I'm afraid I don't know of any specialist biological pathway drawing programmes - when I've drawn pathways like this, I've always used either MS Powerpoint or Adobe Illustrator, but there are many others out there which are likely equally good.
Possibly more important that the programme you use is what kind of notation, symbols etc. you use - a good guide is, for example, this one:
