I want to conduct an experiment rearing shrimp in an aquarium with a soil base. The soil vary in ORP (Oxidation-Reduction Potential) value i.e low (-200 mV), normal (0 mV) and high (+200 mV). Can somebody suggest the practical way to prepare the soil with different value of ORP?
so I think it depend on the concentration of O2 in the aquarium
incase for you, you have to measure the organic matter and oxygen continuously and by decreasing the O2 the reduction potential will be arise and the anoxic condition will happened.
also you can measure the solubility of metals in the aquarium as an indicator of ORP, perhaps Mn could help you incase of soluble Mn there will be a shift in oxidation conditon and in case of Particulate Mn there will be oxic condition .
I think you can prepare different soultion with different concentrations of dissolved organic matter with same constant flow of O2 and monitor the OPR? this could be achieved by increasing or decreasing the nutrition in the aquarium
and you may measure Mn and Fe as indicator for oxic and anoxic conditions in the aquarium?
Mr Hassaan. The soil ORP value i.e low (-200 mV), normal (0 mV) and high (+200 mV) are for the initial condition only. How about that? Can it be prepared by mixing the reduced soil with fully oxidated (dried) one? And varying the ratio? Thanks.
