I need to prepare ngm plates supplemented with fatty acids to grow C. elegans. Thus, I would like to know which solvent can I use to dilute fatty acids (myristic acid and linoleic acid) to make a stock solution?
In the NGM recipe (http://www.wormbook.org/chapters/www_strainmaintain/strainmaintain.html), ethanol is used to dissolve cholesterol, therefore it can be used to reconstitute both fatty acid solutions.
I think you may want to take a look at this paper.

Probably, we can use hot DW to dissolve those fatty acids. Make sure you use NP40 (0.1%) to enhance the FA distribution and absorption. In my experience, NP40 works well in both agar and lipid culture. Hope it can help you.
