From the semilog I-V loop measurement, is it possible to understand reason for non-volatile switching. I am working on a polymer thin film(PVDF) and need to undestand whether the nonvolatile switching is contributed by ferroelectrcity or some kind of filament based bipolar switching.
Resistive switching represents abrupt change in the material conductivity due to certain conditions. In the current-voltage characteristics it appears as a step-like shape.
On the other hand, the ferroelectric (dipole) switching contributes to the current flow only by the displacement current. In other words, the current is proportional to the time derivative of the dipolar polarization of PVDF. As a result, the current of ferroelecctric switching phenomenon appears like a peak (i.e. the derivative of the setp-like change of the polarization).
Summary: If it is step-like shape it is the resistive switching. If it is a peak, it is the ferroelecctric switching.
