I am working on the Li-O2 battery. After using Ru nanoparticles as catalyst in the cathode we observed a decrease in the overpotential during charging and discharging of the lithium-oxygen battery. I am interested to know is it really catalyzing the standard reaction of lithium peroxide formation and its oxidation or it is decomposing the electrolyte solution and making some other reactions. For the battery preparation, we used LiTFSI in tetraglyme as an electrolyte, Ru nanoparticle modified CNT cathode and Li metal as an anode.

Please suggest me how can I differentiate whether catalytic activity of Ru (or any other catalysts) is towards Li peroxide formation and its oxidation or electrolyte decomposition or both? How can I confirm electrolyte decomposition (simple methods of characterization) and influence of catalysts on it?

I will be grateful if you can suggest me articles to clarify it.

Thank you
