Natural Volatile Oils are composition of various moleule hence GC chromatogram of such oil have many peaks while synthetic volatile oil mostly contains 1 or 2 peaks.
Very interesting question. If we start from simple paradigm or simple thought, common natural volatile oil (without purification process) contains more than 1 chemical compound, so the chromatogram will contain more than 1 peak. But if we elaborate this problems, and analize deeper, shyntetic volatile oil also has probability to contain or mixed with another substances, such as unreacted raw materials. According to those analysis, we can not simplify the conclusion only from the number of peak in chromatogram.
And it is becoming more interesting to discuss if we consider about some of shyntetic volatile oil also made from natural volatile oil as their raw material, so classifying whether shynthetic or natural volatile oil is as difficult as differentiating them.
