How to differentiate bands on Agarose gel if the size of the fragment have the difference of only 500 base pairs?

I'm trying to separate fragments of 3 kb and 2.5 kb. I have tried to separate them on 1.8% Agarose gel, however I'm getting only one band between 3kb and 2.5 kb.

I think your agarose concentration (1.8%) is too high to resolve well that size difference. Try running a 1% or 0.7% gel to better resolve in that size range.
