I synthesized a new organic compound which is amorphous in nature. So, I have recorded its powder XRD but I don't know how to get h,k,l,a,d and volume parameters from powder XRD data since it is not crystalline in nature. Please help me to get these values.
Dear Richa Gupta ,
for amorphous material you have no medium to long range order of the atoms. Thus x-ray diffraction at such a lattice will not take place. Amorphous materials have no lattice and thus no lattice planes; thus hkl indexing of lattice planes does not work.
Instead of dedicated x-ray diffraction you have some elastic x-ray scatter processes at locally arranged atoms which superimpose to the so-called 'amorphous hump(s)' (i.e. very broad peak(s); mainly one, which is more or less structured) in the 'XRD' pattern.
