I would like to know how we can determine the charge density of polymeric flocculant or coagulant. Is it valid if we use the zeta potential value as the charge for the polymeric flocculant? An example is the zeta potential for my polyDADMAC is 42 V.
By colloidal titration of the solution with a standard polymer solution of opposite charge (PESNA or PDADMAC ). To perform the colloidal titration coloured die or charge detector can be used. See the papermaking encyclopedy of Hubbe at
Use the particle charge detector (PCD) of Mutek which titrates the PEL with a low molecular oppositely charged one until zero zeta potential. In its software a formula is given for the determination of the charge density (as meq per mg).
