most arc fault detection devices analyse high frequency small signal current spectrum. As the arc noise power density is dependent from system topology and irradiation, it is more a look for chaotic characteristics in a broader frequency band in order not to false trip due to normal operation. The specific methods, which usually are company secrets, have to work in accordance to UL1699b, see the latest 2018 edition. For more general information also see my research.

You can use a TI device called SM73201-ARC-EV RD-195 for DC arc fault detection design:

You can also check the relevant document for this unit:

This TI unit is easy to use for prototyping. You only need to fine-tune the algorithm (i.e. define a threshold value). For validation experiment, it is better to follow the latest UL-1699B standard (2018).
