I have a model consisting of three variables (independent, mediating, and dependent variable). When tested separately, Independent and mediating variables show significant positive standardized regression weights between them and on the dependent variable as well. But when tested into the model, the standardized regression weight of the direct effect of the independent variable on the dependent one exceeds 1 (become 1.2) and the effect of the mediating variable on the dependent one turns to be insignificant or negative. Does this mean that the mediating variable is a suppressor variable? If so, how to deal with this situation, and how to report it? thank you. (I am using Amos, sample size 435, with 32 observed variables, HTMT between the IV and M = .896, and VIFs between the three variables are below 3).
