Recently I was studying an AM alloy using nanoindentation. The average grain size of the alloy is about 18 μm. I want to compare the hardness of the grain boundary and grain interior.

But how can we distinguish the grain boundary and grain interior? Can we distinguish them by the perpendicular distance from the center of the indent to the grain boundary line (such as 2 μm)? If the distance is within 2 μm, we treat them as grain boundaries; if the distance is large than 2 μm, we treat them as grain interior. Is this available?
