Hello everyone

I recently emailed the editor in chief of a journal about our manuscript submitted more than a year ago. Although 6 months ago, one of the journal's staff replied that it is "under review", the editor in chief replied to our recent request that our paper are not suitable for the publication without even being "under review process". When I "politely" flagged the contradictions between the staff's and the editor-in-chief's emails, he threatened me and my co-authors by saying that "I should step back as academe is VERY small space and individuals has a long memories" and called our email "uninvited and emotionally dysregulated", that he cannot tolerate.

What do you think I should do regarding this unethical responses?
