I run my reaction in water and leave it for slow evaporation. The product crashed out after a week, which are not suitable for X-ray crystallography. I have tried to dilute the product and slowly evaporate in the freezer. However, the water evaporated and I get dry crystals. My product is also soluble in acetone. I have tried to add acetone and water, but the product crashed out too quickly.
What were you expecting at the end of evaporation-other than dry-precipitates? Perhaps I didn't understand your question. What do you mean by 'crashing' out? It sounds a lot like precipitation. I don't understand why precipitates cannot be used for XRD.
If you want to evaporate solvent slower you can try a closed container with a small hole in it.
Otherwise you can try structure solution from powder diffraction data.
