Hello All, I wish to simulate a complex foam model (.stl file) in Abaqus. First I need to convert this model into a solid part and remesh it. However, this process is really bothering me because the model is so complex. When I use Hypermesh to transform the solids, I always have problems such as surface creation failing. Is anyone good at this, please? I have shared the file in the attachment.
No need to create a solid model. Use Meshmixer to simplify and repair stl file first. After that use Meshlab to remesh to have a nice uniform stl mesh. Tetrahedral mesh can be then produced from this stl by Netgen or Gmsh software and saved directly as inp file for Abaqus.
Except for Abaqus, everything else is open-source and has a friendly GUI.

You can look into gmsh to mesh the .stl files, and you can then save the mesh as an ABAQUS. inp file. Please look into the website (https://gmsh.info/) and reference manual (https://gmsh.info/doc/texinfo/gmsh.html).
