If you are planting tests using field soil the poor drainage in pots can cause poor germination damping off and root rot. .
Mixing the soil with sand 1 to 1 will cause a much better drainage favoring better gemination less damping off and less root rot.

The drainage in container can be facilitated by drainage holes and the use of a base layer of pea gravel to facilitate drainage and aeration.
If there is standing water and the number of trays are limited, you may put some water absorbing materials such as paper towel layers on the germination tray and remove it periodically.
