How to connect photocathode and photonode in Z-Scheme configuration?

I need a help regarding the electrical connections in photocathode and photoanode in Z-scheme configuration for water splitting.

Will it work simply by an electrical connection between back-contact to back-contact of both the electrodes or something else? I am confused on this.

Your answer/suggestion would be a great help.
