I am currently working on the design of a deployable truss structure and I would like to know what is the proper way to connect beam188 and link180 elements in APDL?
The diagonals (purple lines) are cables therefore link 180 elements, whereas the blue lines are beams.
I have tried to simply connect them with sharing nodes, but it didn't work. Moreover, I tried to use coincident nodes for diagonals and then couple UX, UY and UZ with the beam nodes. But still, ANSYS complains that the model is unconstrained.
Any suggestions would be welcome.
PS. I successfully model the structure using SAP's cable elements, so I assume the problem is with the settings in ANSYS.
Qasim M. Shakir hello. Actually, I managed to solve the issues in my model. I used coincident nodes and coupled UX, UY and UZ with the nodes of the beams . As to the warning of an unconstrained model, I realized the problem was because I was using more than one element to discretize the cables. Using more than one element for the cables causes the model to be unconstrained, otherwise you would need to add a prestress (pre-strain) to the cables.

I want to do the same, and connect beam188 to solid187. But as the DOFs are not the same Ansys raises an error. So is it possible for you to explain how you have solved this using coincident in APDL?
Hi Ali Ghiasi , I basically created beam 188 and link180 elements such that the intersections have overlapping nodes. Then, I used the coincident nodes tool from APDL to make them share the corresponding DOF.
