I am working on my dissertation and was told to use mean group differences (getting means from descriptive statistics)  and in order to get the standard deviation, I used the square root of Mean Square (error term). The n's are 26 (control group) and 20 (experimental group).

Thus, mean difference/sqrt(Mean Square Error).

Is this correct? If so, I have an incredibly large effect size of 1.75 (which is why I'm doubtful).
