Hello all,
I'm doing a quantitative research using SPSS and I have a question. I have collected data about the frequency of use for several technologies and apps, these technologies could be categorized into social and educational technologies so I computed new variables for the social means (the mean of all the social technology items) and the educational means then compared these overall means without any tests. Simply, the overall frequency of use for the social technologies is higher than the educational one. My professor commented that I shouldn't compare these means without doing a test and finding the difference to be significant. Now, I don't understand why we need to do that specially that I don't have a grouping variable, I'm just comparing means. Can you please explain what I can do, and even if I have to use T-test for example how could I organize the variables?
